The Hope Now program was the Bush Administration's effort to assist homeowners stay in their homes by asking the lenders to refinance mortgages. It has had limited success. The program is on-going, and you can contact them by clicking HERE, or Call 1-888-995-HOPE
The Obama Administration has come out with a plan to help homeowners who are slightly underwater (owe 105% or less than what their home is worth) in a new program at http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov President Obama promises this "will help millions of homeowners stay in their homes." The President also wants you to contact your lender to re-finance your mortgage at a rate under 5%. Sounds good... if they will do it.
The problem is that many homeowners in our local area and across the nation owe much more than their homes are now worth, and many of them are faced with personal and family economic challenges that they did not anticipate when they purchased their homes, or even a few months ago. For a great many, re-financing by the lender is not an option. Remember, the lender is the one who got you into the loan in the first place. As for the govenment really helping you... you could get in line I suppose, but who do you think is in front of you with their hands out. That's right... everyone else. The food here can only be described as 'wondrous'! One of our KW agents has recently opened this great little hole-in-the-wall place in Canyon Country, and I had been promising to go over and try it out. If you know me, I am going from A to B and back for my clients, and I don't necessarily make a trip for a meal.
